Ready, Fire, Aim.
Music video from the late Dean Johnson, legendary East Village promoter mysteriously found dead in D.C. this past week.
In an earlier post I incorrectly attributed a quote to Harold Whitman. The real person behind the following quote is Harold Thurman:
“Don’t ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive and then go do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
Thurman is one of the most important figures in African-American history. He had many callings—he was an author, theologian, and educator, just to name a few. But he happened to be a classmate of Martin Luther King Sr. While King’s son, MLK Jr, was attending Boston University, he was mentored and influenced by Thurman.
In 1944 Thurman established the first racially integrated church in America. He personally met with Mahatma Gandhi, who suggested nonviolence as a way to help black Americans in their struggle for civil rights.

This spell will bring you wealth and the finer things in life.
You Will Need: A Gold Candle
A Royal Blue Candle
A Handful Of Mistletoe
The Spell: Begin this spell at a quarter to twelve on the night of a full moon. While in your silver pentacle circle of protection, imagine yourself showered with wealth and good fortune. Place the gold candle on the right of your altar, and the royal blue candle on the left of your altar. Light the candles and, while holding the mistletoe, repeat the following:
“Wheel of fortune turn my way,
I am now rich and wealthy in a correct way,
So Mote It Be”
Leave the mistletoe between the candles on your altar
Born on September 5, I chowed on 5 of NYC’s best birthday cakes. Two Little Red Hens’ red velvet cake trumped all, but Billy’s banana cake made a close second.
